This is also the capacity posted in the Geno's Garage tech section. The owner's manual also states to only fill to a level "3/4 inch below" fill plug hole.Summary: (1) front differential (D30) - the only lube recommended is synthetic 75W-140, although the 1999 does have an alternative of 80W-90. The harder way, would involve pulling both axleshafts, the driveshaft, and then the differential, because the "cover" is your axle beam. I vote for the first one.

The Dana 60 spec is just under 3 quarts. In my personal experience, the Dana 50 will take about 2.5 - 2.75 quarts to fill to the plug. As far as I know, the D50 and D60 use the same case, so they SHOULD have the same capacity. The oil capacity is about 3 quarts, Dana recommends 80w90 gear oil ... The ring gear diameter is 10.5" The 35 spline versions are the same spline as the 35 spline 60 ...I put in exactly recommend amount of 1.75 quarts. That amount barely fill up the bigger cover. Some recommend adding till fluid comes out of the filling hole. I just can't imagine added that much fluid. Has anyone who have bigger covers like Solid differential have the same problems? And how much gear oil did you fill?
